Dr. Kate White is Professor of Marketing and Behavioural Science at the Sauder School
of Business, University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. She also serves as
Senior Associate Dean, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Sustainability for the Sauder
School of Business. Kate’s research focuses on promoting ethical, prosocial, and
sustainable consumer behaviours.
Kate is the author of “The Elusive Green Consumer” in Harvard Business Review and
she has published 60 research articles. Kate has been inducted to the College of Arts
and Sciences, Royal Society of Canada and she has been awarded a Canada Clean 50
Award for thought leadership in sustainability, the AMA-EBSCO Award for Responsible
Research in Marketing, and the AMA William L. Wilkie Marketing for a Better World
Award. Kate’s article on “How to SHIFT Consumer Behaviors to be More Sustainable: A
Literature Review and Guiding Framework” remains the most-read article in the Journal
of Marketing (within the last 6 months) and was recently awarded the Journal of
Marketing/Sheth Best Paper Award.
Kate currently serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Marketing Research and the
Journal of Consumer Psychology. She is on the editorial review boards of the Journal of
Consumer Research and the Journal of Marketing.
Kate has collaborated on various behavior change projects on topics including
sustainable fashion, the circular economy, zero waste, carbon reduction, and charitable
giving with organizations such as Lululemon, Starbucks, the Better Business Bureau,
Unilever, Proctor and Gamble, The City of Calgary, The City of Portland, The United
Way, MakeWay, the SPCA, and The Brands for Good Collaboratory.
